Hello,
I am Bill 'Smokey'
Stover. I am 66years old now and semi-retired. I was the skinny, 21 year old
kid, standing to the left of the AP at the Gate Shack you see flashed on the
'Home Page' of this Web Site. I was stationed at Trabzon from 07/15/62 to
10/27/63. I am writing a series of books which span the period of the past 64
years. My second book covers the first four years of my military life in the USAF and more specifically the 15 months I spent at Trabzon. Please read my

researching for about 6 months. My book is coming along and should be published
at summer's end.
I have communicated with
many Trabzon GIs and have found that many would like to connect and communicate
with old buddies and/or old acquaintances from Trabzon. I don't know exactly
where I am going with this site and hope to get advise and input from you old
Trabzon guys. I can and will develop it into what you want it to be. This site
can become the point of contact for an association or it can just be a conduit
for connection or just a storage and retrieval site for Trabzon Memories or for
Story Sharing. Imagination is the key. I am semi-retired and have the time to
develop this site. It is costing about $250.00 to get out of the box and will
take about as much time as I can afford. It will cost only about $200.00 per
year and more or less time as the site develops and applications change. Costs
may go up as we find new applications and as others become motivated to
participate. My company and I will absorb many of the hidden costs of
maintaining this project. I have found that most of those who participate in
associations and projects of this nature seem to be willing to help in paying
for the basic costs of development and maintenance of the site and other
intrinsic and tangible costs. It will take a year or so to develop a somewhat
finished product. We are getting older. Time is wasting. We should tell and
share our story now so that our children, grand children, family, and friends
can appreciate and maybe even honor us a little for the things we did and
accomplished during the 'Hottest Days' of the 'Cold War'.
I will be emailing this
information to everyone I can find and then continue from that point. If you
know of any other site or group out there, please let me know. I do not wish to
compete with any other viable association or functioning body.
The 'KEY' to developing
any concept is communications. If you were at Trabzon Air Station and have any
desire to connect with Others, connect with 'Memories', share your 'Story', or
just let the 'World' know that you served, email me at any of the email
addresses you find here and elsewhere. It really doesn't matter who makes first
contact. All correspondence with me will be 'Confidential'. Nothing you say or
do will be made public and only those items which you 'OK' will be Posted and/or
Published.

communications. My 'Top Secret, Clearance has been taken out and dusted off
many times through the years because I have on many occasions worked with
Institutions, Contractors, and Big Computer Companies in the Installation and
Maintenance of Military Systems and Messaging Equipment. I believe in
confidentiality and protection of privacy. Anything I do in furtherance of this
project will be to honor Trabzon Vets. You can and should be involved to
whatever level which you want and regardless of your level of involvement, I
will attempt to honor your requests and yet maintain whatever level of
confidentiality you desire.
I have given the Web Site
a name which may have to be changed later. I wanted to get the Trabzon Name out
there in cyberspace so old Trabzon GIs can have an opportunity to Google the
Site. In a few months when comm paths and connections are made, if necessary ,
I can shut the site down and reopen with a name of our choosing. I can also
make it a Log-On Site later if necessary to keep out the day-trippers and
looky-lus. I can Morph the site to whatever it needs to become in order to meet
present and future requirements.
